THR – Felicity Jones will be honored with BAFTA Los Angeles’ Britannia Award for British artist of the year.
The annual gala celebration will take place on Oct. 28 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. As previously announced, Britannia Awards also will be bestowed upon Ang Lee for excellence in directing, Samuel L. Jackson for worldwide contribution to entertainment and Ricky Gervais for excellence in comedy. Ewan McGregor will be honored with the Britannia humanitarian award.
The artist of the year award, which is presented by Burberry, pays tribute to a talented British artist whose outstanding performances in a year demonstrate the high quality of his or her craftsmanship and represents the best of British talent. Past recipients include James Corden, Emma Watson, Daniel Craig, Kate Winslet, Tilda Swinton, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Blunt, Michael Sheen and Rachel Weisz.
Jones is best known for her Oscar- and BAFTA-nominated starring role opposite Eddie Redmayne in James Marsh’s The Theory of Everything. She next stars in Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ron Howard’s Inferno and J.A. Bayona’s A Monster Calls.
“Felicity Jones is one of the finest, most sought-after actors of her generation,” BAFTA Los Angeles chairman Kieran Breen said Thursday in a statement. “With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Inferno and A Monster Calls, this year is set to be the one when Felicity’s remarkable talents reach a truly global audience.”
The Britannia Awards evening is BAFTA’s big night out in Hollywood. The ceremony, which will be hosted for the second year in a row by British comedian and actor Jack Whitehall and is being produced by Done + Dusted, serves to celebrate the long-standing collaboration between the British and American film industries. Proceeds from the event support BAFTA Los Angeles’ education, scholarship, community outreach and archival projects.

The gallery has just been updated with some stills and a gorgeous cast portrait from “A Monster Calls”. This film premiered at the Venice Film Festival this week and is already generating a lot of excellent reviews.
Focus Features have just released another new trailer for “A Monster Calls”. Watch it in full below:
The press coverage for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” has picked up ahead of the film’s December release, and thanks to Lindsey we now have scans from Entertainment Weekly (Aug 19), Total Film and SciFiNow.
Empire have just released a brand new still from “Rogue One”, featuring Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Cassian Andor and K-2SO.
EMPIRE – We’re heading back to a galaxy far, far away this Christmas, and Empire could hardly let a new Star Wars movie slip past without letting it grace our cover. So here it is: the first of our Rogue One covers, in all its rebellious glory.
The cover features the team of rebels tasked with stealing the Death Star plans from the Imperial Military. Pictured on our cover (from left to right): Donnie Yen as Chirrut Imwe; Jiang Wen as Baze Malbus; Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso; Diego Luna as Cassian Andor; and Riz Ahmed as Bodhi Rook. The big droid at the back is Alan Tudyk, on motion-capture duties as K-2SO.
But wait! The circle is not yet complete… This is just the first of our Rogue One covers to be revealed. A second, alternate cover will debut tomorrow (Friday 19th) at 5pm; the exclusive limited edition subscribers cover to be unveiled on Monday. Keep your eyes peeled for those.
Featuring unprecedented on-set access to director Gareth Edwards and his crew, the Rogue One issue of Empire goes on sale Thursday August 25, available in all good and Imperial-affiliated newsagents. Subscribers will be receiving theirs a few days earlier – one of many reasons why it’s worth subscribing to Empire. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, meanwhile, blasts into cinemas from December 16.
ComicBookMovie – Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a new look at Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. Like Finn and Rey before her, the character looks set to become an instant fan-favourite, but in an interview with the magazine, the Oscar winning actress admitted to being an unconventional heroine. After all, at just 5’3″, Jones isn’t what you’d normally expect from a war movie’s lead star.
“She is absolutely a very unlikely heroine. She’s someone on the edges and fringes of society. Physically, she’s smaller than everyone else around her. When someone has something they believe in, that’s what powers them, that’s what motivates them, that’s what can give someone enormous strength.” As for how women are viewed in the Rebellion, she added: “I would say there’s a huge amount of respect for women. Mon Mothma is ultimately, for Jyn, someone she looks up to. So even as the film opens [Jyn] has a strong female role model in front of her, and someone she respects.”
